What is important within your position?
"I have a diverse and diversified job as a Printed Circuit Board designer, Library manager, key user of PCB Tooling, and PCB Competence owner. Many scientific details need to be taken into account during PCB designing and maintaining electronic boards. You are involved with a couple of complicated designs simultaneously. Switching between projects can be quite challenging and time-consuming. This is why it is important to have good planning skills. I am known in the team for not missing a deadline. Besides the time-management, it is important to make sure to deliver a product of good quality. You need to have a problem-solving and hands-on mentality."
What do you enjoy about your work?
"For about 2 years I have been solving electronics challenges while supporting internal and external colleagues to deliver a high-quality product. I enjoy this even more because we operate in the high-tech industry. This makes the design and maintaining Printed Circuit Board Assembly even more interesting. I have been working in the high-tech industry since the start of my career, and I am not planning to ever work in another industry.
I also have enough room to develop myself. I am getting more involved in teamwork and help more with consultancy than designing. While doing this I am improving my soft skills and planning."
What has been the highlight of your career?
"The highlight of my career is becoming the main PCB designer at VDL ETG T&D. Enthusiastically, I took the opportunity to become the key user and competence owner. Working in a bigger company with a different structure than I am used to is something I consider a recent highlight in my career. This is a new step that opens possibilities to grow as a professional."
What advice would you give someone planning to apply for a job at VDL ETG?
"You can expect to receive multidisciplinary tasks in a multi-culture environment. You will have a lot of freedom to explore new fields and tasks within your expertise. You should also have good motivation and a passion for your work."
